2008 OSQMRA Racing Rules
Sign-Ins
- Sign-Ins are open at 7:30am and closes once the first car in that class is pushed off for qualifying. Qualifying order is by pill draw. If a car is signed in after their class has begun qualifying they will not qualify, receive no qualifying points and start at the back of the heat race(s) and the main event. Cars will be assigned a qualifying number upon sign in. Sign-ins are closed during the pit meeting.
- Judging list at sign-ins for handlers to sign up for a class.
- Pit fee: $30.00 per car for all QMA members.
- Practice fees: $25.00 per family on scheduled Club practice dates. Any other private practice at the Orange Show facility track can be arranged directly with the Orange Show facility at a rate determined by their management.
Pit meeting
- 8:30 a.m. (This time can be adjusted by the Board of Directors as necessary for any delays)
Practice/Qualifying/Heats/Mains
- Immediately following the pit meeting. One five minute practice set for each class in QMA order. You must be signed-in and have a paper number attached to your car in order to practice. Maximum seven cars per set.
- Qualifying:
- Immediately following practice and in QMA order. Car qualifying order to be determined by a pill draw at the pit meeting. Cars get a maximum of ten warm-up laps followed by three back-to-back laps on the clock (no split laps).
- 1 car race- heat and main
- The driver will receive a green flag lap, white flag lap and a checkered flag lap.
- 2 car race- heat and main
- The drivers will race ½ of the laps of a full field.
- Heat Race(s):
- Heat race will be 20 laps, straight up from qualifying. 10 warm up laps. If more than a full field, then 1st, 3rd, 5th, etc will be in first set and 2nd, 4th, 6th, etc will be in second heat. (If 3 Heats, then 1st, 4th, 7th, etc will be first set, 2nd, 5th, 8th, will be second set and third set will be 3rd, 6th, 9th etc)
- Main Event(s):
- Full inversion from finish of heat race for all classes. Main event laps will be twenty-five for novices, thirty for junior classes, and forty for all others. If there are 2 Heat races then the top 3 (Juniors), top 4 (Seniors/Others) finishers from each heat race will transfer to the Main. Same place finishers will line up by qualifying times. Fast qualifying time behind slower time cars. (If there are 3 Heats then top 2 (All classes) finishers from each will transfer to A Main. Same place finishers’ line up position will be determined by qualifying times, faster qualifying time behind slower time
- Honda and novice classes have 3 minute warm up. Decos have 5 minute warm up.
- If there is the need for an X (alternate) car in any of the classes, the X (alternate) car will wait in the designated area behind the race director. There are THREE ways the X (alternate) car can enter the race, (1) if there is a car that does not show up for the race, (2) if a car breaks during warm-up laps and can not be fixed before line up is called for, (3) and if there has not been a complete scored lap. The X (alternate) car must go to the tail of the pack and they will not receive any warm up laps.
- Note: A stopped car cannot be worked on while on; the track except for the act of turning on/off the fuel and the securing of safety equipment. If by the flagman, judges, and /or race director’s viewpoint, a car has been deemed as repaired, while on the track, that car will be DQ’ed.Novices must have clear shields for all race day events and Novice training events.
- Engine changes, will start at the back of the next scheduled race in the order they are reported, whether it is a heat race or main event.
- The Racing Director and/or Board of Directors (by majority vote) may cancel a race.
- End of Race day Awards Trophies/awards will be handed out at the end of each race day.
- After qualifying, the cars will be split into as many heat races as necessary to keep the number of cars below the maximum as follows:
- Novices and Juniors 8 cars
- All others 10 cars
- Method for heat race line up is every other qualifier or every third qualifier, as necessary, goes into a heat race.
- EXAMPLE:
- 1st, 3rd, 5th qualifiers go to first heat.
- 2nd, 4th, 6th qualifiers go to second heat
- Heats line up and run per normal OSQMRA rules and receive points per OSQMRA rules.
- Class or divisions, will be combined at the track directors discretion. Points will be given to each class separately.
Novice Class
- Novice class divisions that have more than 8 cars will have the fastest 6 qualifiers go straight to the Main Event fully inverted. Novices may be allowed to have two Main Events to allow track time to gain experience. Method of split is up to Novice Committee.
- JUNIOR CLASSES other than Novice:
- Jr., divisions that have more than 9 cars will have the fastest 6 qualifiers go straight to the Main Event fully inverted.
- ALL OTHERS CLASSES NOT COVERED ABOVE:
- Sr., Light and Heavy divisions that have more than 11 cars will have the fastest 8 qualifiers go straight to the Main Event fully inverted
Semis
- After the Heat races are completed, semis will be run for the cars that did NOT go directly into the Main event.
- Line-ups for Semis are straight up from qualifying as follows:
- Leave two transfer spots open at back of pack as needed, based on no more than 8 cars in Novice and Junior divisions, and no more than 10 cars in Senior, Light and Heavy divisions. The number of semis that are needed in the division will determined by the number of cars in the division.
- The semis will have up to three minutes of warm-up time. Number of laps: Novices 20; Junior Honda and Junior Stock 20; Senior, Light and Heavy 25.
- The first two semi finishers will go to the next semi or Main event, straight up from finish behind the other cars.
- The non-transferring semi cars will not receive points in the Semi-feature.

Fifth 2, Fifth 6, Fifth 16
Sixth 1, Sixth 5, Sixth 15
Seventh 4, Seventh 14
Eighth 3, Eighth 13
Ninth 2, Ninth 12
Tenth 1, Tenth 11
Eleventh 1, Eleventh 10
- When Novice Drivers transfer to the competitive classes they will be awarded points equal to 1 point less than the last place car in that Division with the same number of Races.
- All other drivers can transfer to another Division within their class due to age or weight and carry points up to one point behind second place. One move per year, per Class.
- If a driver is black flagged (for driving infraction only), they do not receive points for that race only. Cars that do not finish the race (DNF), receive points for that position. A car that warms up but does not start the race (DNS) receives points behind DNFs. Cars that do not warm (DNW) receive no points.
- If a racing program is cancelled at any time before the completion of the entire race, there will be points awarded for each completed round. (Sign-in, Qualify, Heat, Main)
- When track fuel, is not provided, there will be no record unless you are tested by a QMA tester and pass. A reading of 84 and less will pass (85 and above WILL NOT PASS). When a track record is broken, the motor is to be teched at the technical director and track director’s discretion.
- End of Year Awards Tie Breakers:
- First tie breaker will be by most main event wins. Second tie breaker will be by most fast times. Third tie breaker will be by most heat race wins.
General
- OSQMRA board can make changes in the racing format as needed due to inclement weather and other unforeseen circumstances.
- Club races will give 5 courtesy laps per caution once lineup is achieved.
- When a track record is broken, the motor is to be teched at the technical director and track director’s discretion.
- Semi Format (Track Director and/or Orange Show Board have authority to use this procedure when necessary).
- Refer to QMA rule book to apply for rules not stated here.
Year End Awards
- A driver must run 5 of 9 point races to qualify for year-end awards as well as be a member in good standing of OSQMRA. Each driver participating in a class will have two throw out races of the nine scheduled races for the year. If your the Driver competes in less than 5 point races they will receive a participation plaque or the parent has the option to purchase the appropriate point position trophy to be presented at the end of the year Banquet.
